Moving to Johnson County

January 21, 2021

Locally and regionally, there is a level of esteem that comes with an address in Johnson County, Kansas. It is known for nationally-recognized schools, a thriving economy, tight-knit neighborhoods and a general level of security that makes it an idyllic place to raise a family.

Symphony Farms dove into a few more reasons why so many people are packing up and moving to Johnson County.

Why Johnson County?

As the state’s largest county by population with more than 600,000 residents, Johnson County serves as a cultural hub with shopping, dining and entertainment scattered throughout the 20 municipalities.

Oak Park Mall, Town Center Plaza and Prairiefire are shopping destinations for residents across the state hosting both luxury brands and smaller, locally owned businesses. Each has its share of dining options as well in the surrounding blocks and Prairiefire is anchored by a museum with a breathtaking glass facade.

Families will frequent the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Garden and the Deanna Rose Children’s Farmsteads where you can learn about the area’s history and reconnect with nature. Shawnee Mission Park has miles of trails winding through a disc golf course, a dog park, and a series of shelters along the 120-acre lake. It is also home to the Theatre in the Park where you can catch local and professional productions throughout the summer.

Where we build

The Symphony Farms community is located in the southwestern corner of Johnson County just minutes away from many of the attractions mentioned above. And although it is one of the smaller cities in the county, its size has nearly doubled in the last decade because of the affordability and easy access to prominent area employers like Cerner, Black & Veatch, Garmin and Chewy.

Located off I-35, Gardner is also a short 30-minute commute from downtown Kansas City and is home to the New Century Airport for regional travel.

Residents here attend the Gardner Edgerton School District which is comprised of 11 schools. Niche.com gave the district an overall grade of A- crediting a low student-teacher ratio of 14-to-1 and new state-of-the-art facilities. The district boasts three National Blue Ribbon Schools.

The city of Gardner maintains a busy calendar of events often gathering at Celebration Park at the north end of Symphony Farms. These include an Independence Day Celebration, Smoke on the Trails BBQ Competition, Grand Slam Beer, Wine and Spirits Festival, and Boo Bash. On a regular day, you may see youth sports in the park or enjoy a stroll along two miles of public walking trails.
