2021 Home Design Trends

November 12, 2021

When it comes to home design and decorating, every homeowner has their preferences. But many people like to stay up-to-date with the latest trends—and incorporate them into their home’s interiors. In 2021, we saw homeowners find inspiration from this year's trends--many of which are included in the details and features available in Symphony Farms homes.

Dedicated Activity Space

According to a survey conducted by Houzz, homeowners in the United States gravitated toward homes with dedicated activity spaces. Search data for art studios increased by 875 percent, home bars by 277 percent, home theaters by 190 percent, home gyms by 156 percent and home offices by 108 percent year-over-year. No matter what intended use homeowners have for a bonus room, it’s become more and more important for that to be available.

Floor plans available in the Symphony Farms community feature sought-after bonus rooms and spaces, including lofts, studies, finished basements, outdoor living and plenty of spare bedrooms. By including multiple spaces throughout a single home, families can spend more time with the people they care about doing the things that interest them. Adults can watch the big game inside, enjoy a halftime break outside while the kids partake in their own activities in a separate space.

While we’ve always focused on designing layouts that maximize every square foot of the home, today’s trends prove how functional one of our homes can be for just about any type of homeowner.

Eye-Catching Kitchens

Kitchens are truly the heart of the home, and they are often the room that wins over potential buyers when searching for their next home. With so much focus on the kitchen, the design has to be impeccable. While stark-white cabinets have remained popular, one area where homeowners chose to be more daring is with kitchen islands. Colorful, oversized kitchen islands offer a pop of personality and design-forward contrast, with trending hues of blues, greens and grays.

Another kitchen feature homeowners were more daring with this past year was the backsplash. Ornate, colorful tiles took center stage, but many opted for more standard colors in a unique tile shape or pattern.

Home chefs, no matter how skilled, were also on the hunt for integrated range hoods above their high-quality kitchen stove. Symphony Farms disguises range hoods behind matching cabinet fronts, making the visual much more seamless.

Organization is key throughout the home, but it’s especially important in the kitchen. Symphony Farms will customize the pantry space in every kitchen to meet the needs of the homeowner—they even have the option to select a butler-style pantry, which adds even more counter space and storage to their dream kitchen.

Creating Calmness

The personalization process at Symphony Farms allows homeowners to select details and features in their future homes. When it comes to color, many choose whites, grays and light beiges to create a blank slate. However, people leaned toward more blue hues this year—and the psychology of color suggests that blue promotes feelings of calmness and serenity. For a more peaceful presence, homeowners often choose blue shades of paint in their bedrooms, activity rooms and bathrooms.

Promoting Time Together

Open-concept layouts have been favored for a few years now, but they became even more-sought after in 2021. The layout in Symphony Farms floor plans feature one large living space, tearing down the traditional walls between the living room, dining room and kitchen. By creating an open line of vision and easy flow between space, our floor plans promote togetherness and make it easy to spend time with family and friends.

The goal at Symphony Farms has always been to provide unique designs and custom details to create homes that fit the needs of different lifestyles and budgets. Homeowners love the flexibility they have with their design choices, allowing them to create a true home based off of their favorite trends in interiors.
